Things you may want to know but were afraid to ask. . .I am a mom of two teenage boys and a curious 9 year old cairn terrier. I have just completed my 27th year of working in Aldine ISD as an elementary teacher, a technology specialist, an Information Literacy Specialist (a modern way of saying librarian) and now the Library Systems Administrator. I am a self proclaimed geek that identifies with Monty Python to Doctor Who to Batgirl. I am an avid reader who has spent most of her time in the picture book world, but has now graduated to YA literature. I enjoy spending time with my family and watching my boys grow up way TOO quickly.
Now for the really important stuff. . .I have been an Information Literacy Specialist for the past 9 years. For the past 3 years, I have been the Library Systems Administrator for Aldine as well as the ILS at our behavior alternative school. I graduated from Sam Houston State University in 1991 with a Bachelor's of Arts in Education. I graduated from North Texas University in 2012 with a Master's in Library Science. I am a 2014 TALL Texan and a 2017 Executive Library Leader Institute participant. I have been involved in many professional organizations: TLA, ALA, TCEA, ISTE, TASL, TASLA, Delta Kappa Gamma, and TCCA (Technology and Curriculum Conference of Aldine). I began presenting workshops in 1995 and have not stopped since. Topics range from ESL, early childhood reading/math to technology and library resources. I have presented workshops on the school level, district-wide, and state-wide. I have worked on 2016 TLA Local Arrangements committee and was the chair of Disaster Relief for 2017-18. I am in my second term as secretary for ATRT. I am a firm believer in the need for highly qualified library professionals to be in the forefront of our schools. Students and teachers need us to help guide their way to reliable information and to navigate the waters of quality research. As K-12 educators, we can be valuable assets to assisting our students in reaching their goals.
